Mohammad Haghighi Biography

Mohammad Haghighi is an Iranian musician, composer and Taar player. He was born in Tehran in 1960. He started his artistic career in theatre at the early age of 7. Between the age of 7 and 14 he mostly pursued theatre and appeared in many plays mainly in Shiraz. At the age of 14 he entered art school (Danesh-sara-ye-Honar). He learned to play Taar from Masters such as Hassan Safari and Hossein Alizadeh. After finishing art school he studied music composition with the late Morteza Hannaheh and Dr. Taghi Masoudieh. He went to Germany to pursue his studies. In Germany, he was a guest student at Hamburg University, the University of Hanover, and the University of Manheim. He mainly studied music pedagogy. He then studied supplementary courses in composing with Professor Kurzfeld and Kubkuwitsch. Between 1997 and 2007 he was a professor at the University of Tehran and the University of Art. At the moment, he is teaching Taar and Se-Taar as well as harmony and musical theory in Heidelberg, Germany. His current research focuses on the comparative study of Iranian and western musical instruments. He is a member of GEMA (Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte).

He has held more than fifty concerts all over Europe either as a solo artist or as a part of various musical bands. Currently he has more than 120 unpublished recorded compositions, 30 of which is scheduled for released in the near future.
